What is the power of probiotics?

Simply selecting the right probiotic strains with the appropriate properties for a specific indication or patient is not enough. To ensure the success of a probiotic product, the key technical characteristics are stability, survival in the digestive tract, and the metabolic activity of the bacteria.

What is the power of probiotics?

Our commitment is to improve the quality of life for as many people as possible. We research, develop, and manufacture premium probiotic products.

We are dedicated to continuously studying the role of the microbiome and probiotics in health and disease. Our research helps us to select the most effective bacteria for specific indications and to develop multi-strain targeted or personalized formulations for specific indications that work best for you.

However, simply selecting the right probiotic strains with the right properties for each specific indication is not enough to ensure the success of a probiotic product. The key technical properties of a high-quality probiotic product are:

  • stability,
  • survival in the digestive tract,
  • metabolic activity,

It makes no sense to take a probiotic product if most bacteria die before consumption, or if they survive but are no longer active.

To ensure optimal probiotic efficacy, we use the new Probioact® technology.

What is PROBIOACT® technology?

We use Probioact® technology in powdered forms of personalized and targeted probiotics. It applies carefully selected ingredients that support bacterial viability, thereby enhancing the efficacy and premium quality of the product. These ingredients contribute to the stability of individual bacteria, their survival in the digestive tract, and metabolic activity at the target site.

Stability

Probiotics are, by definition, living microorganisms, so it is necessary to ensure a sufficient number of viable bacterial cells and keep probiotic bacteria stable (alive) until the end of their shelf life. In traditional probiotic products, many bacteria are killed during storage due to exposure to environmental factors such as water, oxygen, and temperature. Probioact® increases the stability of our personalized and targeted probiotics and allows storage at room temperature. This ensures the cell count of all our probiotics throughout their shelf life for up to 2 years at room temperature. The technology was developed and tested for 5 years before being patented.

We accessed this technology thanks to contacts from our international scientific conference on probiotics, prebiotics, and the gut microbiome, which we have been organizing for 23 years.

Survival in the digestive tract

For probiotic bacteria to exert their beneficial effects, they must survive the harsh environment of the digestive tract. The ability of probiotic strains to survive passage through the digestive tract is primarily attributed to their tolerance to acids and other digestive products. In traditional probiotic products, many viable cells are killed due to low stomach pH and digestive enzymes and products in the gut. Probioact® technology protects the bacteria in our premium probiotic formulations from these hostile conditions. It’s as if each bacterium is individually suited up in a spacesuit and sent into your inner universe.

These "spacesuits" were tested by the Medical Microbiology Institute at MUMC (Maastricht University Medical Care) using a digestive tract model. This model simulates passage through the digestive tract and allowed us to assess the survival of our probiotic bacteria in the presence of pH changes and digestive products (pepsin, pancreatin, and bile). Tests showed that Probioact® technology improved the survival of our probiotic strains in the digestive tract, contributing to maximum probiotic efficacy.

Metabolic activity

The production of lactic acids, bacteriocins, short-chain fatty acids, and other metabolites is one of the mechanisms of action of probiotics that positively affect human health. To achieve this, probiotic bacteria in the gut must not only be alive but also metabolically active.

In conventional probiotics, due to specific treatments (tyndallization), exposure to environmental factors, or the addition of unsuitable ingredients, probiotic bacteria may be damaged or affected in a way that they do not survive, or if they survive, they no longer reach their full activity.

Acid production, such as lactic acid, reflects the metabolic activity of probiotic bacteria. The more acid is produced, the more active the bacteria. Probioact® contains specially selected ingredients to enhance the metabolic activity of our probiotic bacteria. This ensures that bacteria in our personalized and targeted probiotics are alive and active.

PROBIOACT® Ingredients

In addition to selecting the right bacterial strains with the right properties for each specific indication, we add carefully selected Probioact® ingredients to our formulations to ensure optimal probiotic efficacy. Every one of our powdered probiotic products contains Probioact®.

Therefore, Probioact® is designed to optimally suit each product. Thanks to Probioact® technology, you can be fully confident that our personalized and targeted probiotics deliver what we promise.

Probioact® technology is unique, and our probiotics stand out because of it. It demonstrates what we, as a company, stand for.

We select bacterial strains for our products either specifically for particular indications or personalized based on microbiome analysis and an individual’s health history. When choosing strains, we always rely on scientific evidence and clinical studies. However, probiotic preparation technology is equally important. It’s not enough to pick the right "astronauts." You also need to equip them properly and protect them effectively on their mission so they can fulfill their specific tasks.

We use Probioact® technology in our targeted probiotics ALLERGIC+ for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, and eczema patients. We also use it in the improved Personalized iProbio 2.0 probiotics of the new generation.
