We develop targeted probiotics.
The Slovak brand iProbio was founded by Alojz Bomba, Martin Haranta and Norbert Bomba. We base our formulations on research into specific bacterial strains.
Meet our co-founders
Norbert Bomba and Martin Haranta introduce iProbio and explain why the choice of specific bacteria matters when developing probiotics.
Our scientific roots go back to Košice
iProbio builds on the scientific work of our co-founder MVDr. Alojz Bomba, DrSc. He headed the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine at UPJŠ in Košice, which was founded in 1984.
In 2000 he founded the international scientific conference IPC. Until 2025 we also organised it.

Why we do it
Bring knowledge into practice
We connect research on the gut microbiome with the development of targeted and personalised probiotic formulations. We turn scientific findings into a concrete choice of strains and other ingredients in our products.
Informed choice for everyone
We want people to be able to rely on research, exact composition and expert explanation when choosing probiotics. Our ambition is to make knowledge about the microbiome accessible to everyone who wants to understand their choice.
The values we follow
Scientific rigour
We read results in context. What matters is the type of study, who took part and what was actually measured.
Transparency
We make compositions, expert sources and information about research projects accessible. You can also read the background to our work for yourself.
Respect for the individual
We know that people have different questions and needs. We make room for individual advice and for personalised selection.
Clarity
We explain technical terms in everyday language. For more detailed topics we add a glossary and links, so you can choose how deep you want to read.
How we create our formulations
-
We choose based on research
When choosing strains, we look at what was studied, at what dose, in whom and with what result. Every strain in our targeted products has a precise designation including its code, and the specific studies its selection rests on. That is why for each product we state which studies we draw on and what they looked at.
-
We state the exact composition
For every product you will find the full composition, the amount of each ingredient in the recommended daily dose and directions for use. We give strains by their full name including the code, so you can look them up and check them yourself. No hidden blends and no vague strain names without a code on the label.
-
We care about viability
We protect the viability of the bacteria at several levels. We choose strains that withstand stomach acid and bile, use enteric capsules, Probioact® technologies and microencapsulation, and pack the capsules in aluminium tubs that protect them from light and moisture.
iProbio in numbers
Our goals
We turn our mission into work in four areas. This is the direction in which we want to keep developing iProbio.
Advance microbiome research
Continue our own research projects and our cooperation with specialist institutions. Present the research questions, approach and available results in plain language.
Refine our formulations
Evaluate new findings on strains and bioactive substances and use them in the further development of targeted products and the personalised line.
Connect experts
Develop cooperation between researchers, doctors, pharmacists and other experts. Create space for exchanging knowledge and questions from practice.
Expand education
Expand our articles, strain library and glossary of terms. Help people find their way around the microbiome, from their first questions to reading a specific study.
Martin Haranta, co-founder of iProbio
Martin Haranta leads iProbio as CEO. He studied technology management at The Open University in the UK. He has also completed the online HMX Fundamentals courses in immunology and genetics from Harvard Medical School.
He regularly talks about the microbiome in the media, where he also explains what matters when choosing probiotics.
“First of all, the logic that the more strains or billions of bacteria, the better simply doesn’t work. That is complete nonsense.”
Martin Haranta, MSc.
