It is our commitment to improve the quality of life of as many people as possible. We research, develop and manufacture premium probiotic preparations.
We are determined to keep studying the role of the microbiome and probiotics in health and disease. Our research helps us to choose in a targeted way the most effective bacteria for specific indications and to develop multi-strain targeted or personalised preparations for specific indications that work best for you.
However, selecting the right probiotic strains with the right properties for each specific indication is not enough on its own to ensure the success of a probiotic preparation. The key technical properties of a quality probiotic preparation are:
- stability,
- survival in the digestive tract,
- metabolic activity,
There is no point in taking a probiotic preparation when most of the bacteria die before consumption, or when the bacteria survive but are no longer active.
To ensure optimal probiotic effectiveness we use the new Probioact® technology.
What is PROBIOACT® technology?
We use Probioact® technology in the powder forms of our personalised and targeted probiotics. It applies carefully selected ingredients that support the viability of the bacteria, and thus also the effectiveness and premium quality of the preparation. These ingredients contribute to the stability of the individual bacteria, their survival in the digestive tract and their metabolic activity at the place of destination.

Stability
Probiotics are, by definition, live microorganisms, so it is necessary to ensure the number of viable bacterial cells and to keep the probiotic bacteria stable (alive) until the end of their shelf life. In traditional probiotic products a large number of bacteria are killed during shelf life by exposure to environmental conditions such as water, oxygen and temperature. Probioact® increases the stability of our personalised and targeted probiotics and allows storage at room temperature. In this way we ensure the cell count of all our probiotics over a shelf life of up to 2 years at room temperature. The technology was developed and tested for 5 years before it was patented.
We came to it precisely thanks to contacts from our international scientific conference on probiotics, prebiotics and the gut microbiome, which we have been organising for 23 years.
Survival in the digestive tract
For probiotic bacteria to exert their beneficial effect, they need to survive passage through the hostile environment of the digestive tract as well. The ability of probiotic strains to survive passage through the digestive tract can be attributed mainly to their tolerance of acids and other digestive products. In traditional probiotic products a large number of viable cells are killed as a result of the low pH in the stomach and the digestive enzymes and products in the digestive tract. Probioact® technology protects the bacteria in our premium probiotic formulations from these hostile conditions. It is as if you dressed each bacterium individually in a spacesuit and sent it out into your inner universe.
These spacesuits were tested by the MUMC institute of medical microbiology (Maastricht University Medical Care) on a model of the digestive tract. This model simulates passage through the digestive tract and made it possible to assess the survival of our probiotic bacteria in the presence of changes in pH and digestive products (pepsin, pancreatin and bile). The tests showed that Probioact® technology improved the survival of our probiotic strains in the digestive tract, thereby contributing to the highest effectiveness of probiotics.
Metabolic activity
The production of lactic acids, bacteriocins, short-chain fatty acids and other metabolites is one of the mechanisms of action of probiotics through which they have a beneficial effect on human health. To achieve this, we need probiotic bacteria in the gut that are not only alive but also metabolically active.
In ordinary probiotics, as a result of specific treatment (tyndallisation), exposure to certain environmental factors, or the addition of an unsuitable ingredient to the preparation, the probiotic bacteria can be damaged or affected in such a way that they do not survive, or, if they survive, no longer reach their full level of activity.
The production of acids such as lactic acid reflects the metabolic activity of probiotic bacteria. The more acid is formed, the more active the bacteria are. Probioact® technology contains specially selected ingredients to increase the metabolic activity of our probiotic bacteria. This allows us to ensure that the bacteria in our personalised and targeted probiotics are alive and active.

PROBIOACT® ingredients
Besides selecting the right bacterial strains with the right properties for each specific indication, we add carefully selected Probioact® technology ingredients to our formulations to ensure optimal probiotic effectiveness. Every one of our probiotic preparations in powder form contains Probioact®.
That is why Probioact® is composed to suit each preparation optimally. Thanks to Probioact® technology you can be completely sure that our personalised and targeted probiotics deliver what we promise.
Probioact® technology is unique, and thanks to it our probiotics stand out above the others. It shows what we stand for as a company.
We select the bacterial strains for our preparations either in a targeted way for specific indications, or in a personalised way on the basis of an analysis of the microbiome and medical history of the specific person. In selecting strains we always draw on scientific evidence and clinical studies. The technology of preparing probiotics is, however, just as important. It is not enough to select the right cosmonauts. You must also equip them properly and protect them effectively on their mission, so that they can carry out their specific tasks.
We use Probioact® technology in our targeted probiotics ALLERGIC+ for people with allergies, asthma and eczema. We also use it in the improved iProbio 2.0 personalised probiotics of the new generation.
